In July 2023, the doors to Teamspirit Inc in New York were officially flung open. It was a momentous occasion for all of us, but none more so than Sophie Klein. After working her socks off at Teamspirit for seven years, there came an opportunity she couldn’t refuse, and Sophie jetted off to become Business Director of our newly formed US office.

Waving her off with tears in our eyes, it was soon clear she was made for the role and settled into her new life in the city. Over the last 12 months, while there have been celebrations and challenges, Sophie has taken it all in her stride. And now she’s here to tell us about her experience and what she’s excited for in the future. Whatever it is, we’ve no doubt she’ll do a fabulous job and we’re thrilled to have someone so passionate and driven at the helm. Take it away, Sophie

It’s been a whole year since Teamspirit Inc opened in the big apple, and Sophie is here to
 tell us all about her experience moving stateside.

New York, New Opportunities

Wherever you are in the UK (or indeed the world), you’re probably not that far from one of the 3 million+ geocaches hidden and waiting to be found by those in the know. A ‘cache’ may be a tiny magnetic ‘nano’ stuck inside a drainpipe or up a lamppost. It may be camouflaged as a toadstool or a bit of bark. It could involve solving a puzzle or finding a piece of local information. It could even contain a small gift (swag) or a special trackable keyring that wants to travel the world.

You discover these caches using a phone app and GPS. But even when your phone vibrates to signal you’re close, they can be incredibly difficult to spot.
Geocaching is basically treasure-hunting for grown-ups (although my kids have helped me find quite a few – they’re particularly useful for squeezing into small spaces or under low benches!).

And I find it an ideal way to get out of the agency at lunchtime. To reset my brain, get a few steps in and visit somewhere new in the area. It’s the perfect mix of curiosity, observation, exploration and fresh air. All things we love at Teamspirit.

While I love my work here at Teamspirit, and being part of a bustling PR office, I not-so-secretly have a passion for tennis. My Dad is a tennis coach and some of my earliest memories are running around the tennis court trying to keep up with my brother. Now, I spend nearly every summer (sometimes more) working with the stringing team at Wimbledon, and it’s taken me round the world.

Not many people know about the joys of racket restringing, nor do they realise the effort that goes into it. Or the fussiness! Each player has their own wants and needs when it comes to their rackets and it’s my job to make sure that happens. Well, not just my job, there are lots of racket restringers who are much more expert than me – but there’s a whole cabin full of us at all the major tournaments. Wimbledon? Yep. Other Grand Slams? Yep. Any tournament on the WTA or ATP tour? Yep.
